AI for Teachers

Updated: Jan 5

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the world of education, offering new possibilities for teachers and students alike. One of the leading platforms that provides AI-powered tools for educators is Canva, a free online design tool that enables anyone to create stunning visuals.

Canva is an online graphic designing and publishing tool with several functions and features that even beginners can utilize. Anyone can use it to make amazing designs for both personal and business usage. It is designed specifically for those who aren't graphic designers and who can't afford to spend a lot of money on expensive designs. This platform is comprehensive and can be used for everything, including creating resumes and invitation cards. You can also purchase the available paid version to unlock additional features.

Canva was introduced in 2013 with the goal of empowering everyone in the world to design anything and publish anywhere. The following are the values of Canva:

  1. Be a force for good. Making the world a better place through positive actions, inclusion and diversity.

  2. Be a good human. Value good communication. Be open, honest and constructive with yourself, with your team, with the company, and with the world.

  3. Empower others. Empowering others to achieve their goals, both globally and within Canva.

The business was initially called Canvas Chef, to show how the software could offer all the ingredients needed (fonts, illustrations, photos) to design anything — be it a flyer, business card, or restaurant menu. This eventually fell out of favor with the co-founders, so when looking for a new name, one of the team’s engineers explained that “canvas” was pronounced “can-va” in French, and the rest is history.

The purpose of Canva for Education is to promote learning by leveraging benefits of collaboration and visual communication. It helps teachers to create HyperDocs, presentations, infographics, announcements, newsletters, videos, and more. Students and teachers can become designers with ease thanks to Canva for Education. Because the tools are easy to use, you can now create designs that are appealing to the eye in just a few taps. We use Canva for Education for the following ten reasons:

  1. The Brand Kit. Consistency in theme — which includes fonts, colors, and graphics — when communicating is one aspect of design in education. A Brand Kit is available to educators from Canva for education. Use ready-to-use fonts and color schemes to customize your creations. This is excellent for producing material for parents, educators, students, and the public.

  2. Templates. Creating visually appealing content for the classroom, such as infographics, worksheets, presentations, and videos, can take hours. With more than 420,000 designs, Canva for education makes content creation easier.

  3. Presentation tools. Teachers can present and record their Canva for education designs without difficulty, then share the recording as a downloaded video or a link. In addition to present and record, teachers can use Canva's magic shortcuts to spice up their presentations . Teachers are able to show a list of possible commands when presenting by pressing the shift key and the question mark key. These commands include those to blur the screen, activate a drum roll, quiet the class, and even activate a timer. These built-in presentation tools can improve your transition time and engagement in lessons.

  4. Group Work. Canva offers a ton of Group Work templates. You may edit the content to make it your own as a teacher. Additionally, you can send the link to your students so that everyone can collaborate online while sorting, brainstorming, or changing ideas.

  5. Social-Emotional Learning Templates. In today's classroom, social-emotional learning is essential. Teachers can promote their students' wellbeing by using SEL templates to develop meaningful interactions, activities, and connections.

  6. Advanced Design Features. Canva provides features including applying colors to pages, drawing tools, color pickers, QR code generators, Bitmoji integration, and more.

  7. App Smash. Canva includes templates for different platforms and integrates effectively with numerous different applications. OneNote embed, Flipgrid backgrounds, Google/Teams headers, and Book Creator are just a few of its program layouts.

  8. Video Creation. Video templates with various elements, text layouts, and video formats are available.

  9. Organization. Use Folders to keep all of your designs organized and easy to find. You can also include any page from any of your designs into your new designs, which is a wonderful way to stay organized. Additionally, teachers can use Canva's classroom tools to set up groups and arrange assignments for easy access by students.

  10. Canva Live. Emoji responses during a presentation let you know how your students are participating. They may leave comments that only you can see, answer your questions, or ask questions.

Canva develops a variety of tools to assist you in designing and editing your templates, pictures, infographics, and other materials. Canva is so easy to use that no prior knowledge is required. Furthermore, it is a free platform that benefits people, particularly students or those who use it for educational purposes.

You may discover and experiment with design tools at your own pace thanks to the Canva editor's intuitive use. Canva offers a huge selection of templates to get you started.
