MENTIMETER is a web-based app that allows you to create presentations with live polls, quizzes, word clouds, Q&A sessions, and more. All you need is a device with an internet connection and a projector or screen to display your slides. Your students can participate using their own devices, such as smartphones, tablets, or laptops, by simply entering a code or scanning a QR code.

 

MENTIMETER app was started by Swedish entrepreneur Johnny Warström and Niklas Ingvar as a response to unproductive meetings.  It has four founders and they are Johnny Warström, Niklas Ingvar, Henrik Fräsén, and Kristoffer Renholm.  This app is a tool that users can share their knowledge and real-time feedback on their mobile. They create this Mentimeter that would be benefit themselves to response to unproductive meetings.

 


 

FUNCTIONS OF MENTIMETER


MENTIMETER is a helpful presentation-based digital tool that allows educators to make the most of its features for teaching, including quizzes, polls, and word clouds. It allows teachers to ask questions quickly and for students to respond to the questions using their computer or mobile device. Teachers can ask a variety of question types, including multiple choice and word answer to get real-time input from students. It also supports collecting questions from students in real-time.


MENTIMETER could be described as clickers, a student response system, a classroom response system, and/or an audience response system. The idea here is to make the creation of whole class, group, or individual quizzes and more, all very easy to create and use. As such, you can be more efficient with your time as an educator while students can easily engage with all the material you have on offer.


MENTIMETER's primary purpose, as with all other polling tools, is to gather assessment information easily on how the full class is doing.


This includes:

  • Pre-assessments before teaching a topic

  • Quick comprehension checks during or after teaching a topic

  • Gathering feedback on the process of learning (e.g., what’s one question you still have?)


MENTIMETER offers several pre-made icebreaker templates and suggestions to use with your students.

How to create a poll using MENTIMETER?

  1. To create a poll in MENTIMETER, log in to your account and click on New Presentation from within your dashboard.

  2. Type in a name for your presentation.

  3. Choose a slide type from the right hand panel.

  4. Click on the Content tab and add your questions.

  5. In the Customize tab, you get to work on the settings of your slides.

  • Once students have submitted their answers, they are unable to retrieve or edit their responses; this has left some students feeling frustrated and, occasionally, embarrassed over errors that have been made.

 

In conclusion, this Mentimeter has many features that assist teachers to conduct their lessons to be more engaging and effective. With this tool, teacher’s responsibility  and their time and effort to make their lesson  will be lessen.  It has differet features that everyone can utilize. Truly, mentimeter is a helpful tool to everyone particularly for teachers. It is used to engage students with live polls, word clouds, quizzes, multiple choice questions, and more. One of the best features of mentimeter is that it allows the learners to leave a comment or a question on every slide or link that is sent to them. The learners can also do peer comments because mentimeter allows it to do so. However, you cannot access it when you do not have a Wi-fi connected device. But overall, it was useful and helpful tool that we, pre-service teacher, should know how to use these tool.
